Merganser’s
Classic Rip-N-Tear MNH (“Rip”) was our Chocolate Labrador stud dog and the
true impetus for developing our breeding program here at Brown Dog
Retrievers. Rip was gifted with a complete package: great looks, an
extraordinary temperament, and drive and style that have made him a truly
exceptional competitor in the AKC Hunting Test Program (see “Rippin’ Statistics”),
a great hunting dog, and family companion. He had a very calm disposition and
“happy-go-lucky” attitude that make him a great pet and family member, but in
the field and during competition, Rip was all business; hard charging,
tenacious, stylish, and intelligent. He was both an excellent marking and
handling dog and was very stable “on the line” in competition and in the
field when hunting. Rip sired numerous litters and his puppies exhibit
similar qualities that make him such a great Chocolate Labrador retriever.
Several Rip puppies are competing and succeeding in hunting tests and all of
our clients are very pleased with their puppies sired by Rip. There are 15
Field Trial and/or Amateur Field Trial Champions, 2 Qualified All-Age, and 2
Master Hunting Retriever (NAHRA titles) relatives in 4 generations of his
mostly “black Labrador Retriever” pedigree. Rip's sire “Rascal” is the only
Chocolate Labrador Retriever in history to win a National Open
