Chocolate Labrador Retriever Stud

Chocolate Labrador Retrievers, Studs, Trained dogs, and Puppies

Our chocolate Labrador retrievers breedings produce exceptionally high quality retrievers from field-competition genetic lines. Brown Dog Retrievers is the home to our late and great stud, Merganser’s Classic Rip-N-Tear MNH, a son of NFC AFC Storm’s Riptide Star, the only chocolate Labrador retriever in history to win a National Open Field Trial Championship. Rip has sired numerous puppies that have become great field competitors, hunting dogs, and family pets.

Merganser’s Classic Rip-N-Tear MNH (“Rip”) was the true impetus for developing our breeding program here at Brown Dog Retrievers. Rip was gifted with a complete package: great looks, an extraordinary temperament, and drive and style that have made him a truly exceptional competitor in the AKC Hunting Test Program (see “Rippin’ Statistics”), a great hunting dog, and family companion.

Sage Brush Rebellion (“Sage”) is a son of our Chocolate Labrador stud dog Merganser’s Classic Rip and Tear MNH (Rip) and our female Wind River Hoppin’ Habanero JH (Chili). Like his father Rip, Sage was gifted with great looks, an extraordinary temperament, and lots of drive and style that make him a fantastic gun dog.

Our Dams:

Our chocolate Labrador retriever  Chili is a 60 pound female that has a lean, athletic build and a very dark chocolate coat. She has an excellent disposition and works very hard in the field. Chili has developed into an exceptionally good upland hunting Labrador retriever. She passed 4 straight Junior tests for her Junior Hunting Retriever title and will be running Senior and Master hunting tests in the future.

Our chocolate Labrador retriever Luna was a very athletic and muscular female with a great temperament and tenacity for birds.  She was very tractable, hard driving in the field, and a great mother.  Sadly, Luna passed away in early December 2006.  She was just four years old and has been sorely missed.  Luna and Sage were featured in a scientific article published by owner Ed Arnett that demonstrated how Labrador retrievers could be trained to find carcasses of birds and bats killed by wind turbines (download article).

Our Program

We are dedicated to providing quality chocolate Labrador retrievers for hunting dogs, field competitors, and family companions. All of our dogs are hunted extensively, trained for obedience and field competition, and campaigned in the AKC Hunting Test program. Our Labs live in our home and are true family companions and well socialized with people and children.

Our breeding program combines outstanding Field Trial Champion and Hunting Retriever titled parents to produce intelligent, athletic retrievers that are tractable, trainable, good looking, and eager to please. Our small facility and breeding program provides a very close and personal touch when raising our puppies for their new owners. We guarantee, in writing, that our puppies are free of hip and elbow dysplasia and hereditary eye disorders. Our puppies come with their dew claws removed and first worming and vaccinations.

We work closely with our clients to match our puppies with their needs and desires. All of our retriever puppies are well socialized with people, adults and children, other dogs, and introduced to birds, gunfire and other loud noises. We spend a lot of time socializing and caring for our puppies to ensure you have a healthy, stable, intelligent, bold, and happy puppy entering your home. Socialization is a critical step in raising puppies: most chocolate Labrador retriever breeders say they do it…we guarantee it!

So whether you're considering a field competitor, hunting dog, a family pet, or any of the numerous possibilities a chocolate Labrador retriever has to offer, consider a Brown Dog!
